Northwest Wiki

Welcome to the Northwest Wiki

A wiki is by definition a Web 2.0 tool that promotes collaboration, allows content creation by students and helps to build learning communities. The CITE Office will be running a test this semester by supplying wiki web sites to courses by request. We are using an open-source wiki engine, called Screwturn and have it installed on the CITE server. Visit the Screwturn website for more information about this product.

Use the wiki as a blog tool.
Blogging is another word for journaling where others can read and comment on the bloggers entry. Every student in the course would have their own Blog page. Other students in the course would be able to comment on anyone's blog.

Use a wiki as a collaborative project workspace.
Have a seperate wiki built for group work among classmates.  Any one in the group will be able to create and edit pages.

Use a wiki for a group study
Students posting questions and students answering questions. Or use the course SI, student instructor/tudor to answer student questions.

How would you use a Wiki?
Use a wiki in anyway you can think of to help create a learning community within your course. Links can be added to websites, documents, video, audio. Pictures can be easily added as well.

To request a Wiki for your course
Contact Jolaine Zweifel at CITE. She will set up template, enroll students. Jolaine will be the site administrator, but the instructor will also have administrative rights. It will open within the framework of an eCollege page, but students will still have to login to have access.

If you would like to have a look around an already done Wiki to decide if this something that you would like to have in your course web site click here.

The wiki will be deleted at the end of the semester.
